Corporate Procurement: How it works in Barking and Dagenham

A report by Colin Holmes, Site Editor, on a presentation given by Sue Chappell of Barking & Dagenham's  Procurement Team.

Sue Chappell explains the procurement process.

First, all companies wishing to bid for local authority contracts must complete a pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ). They must attach all relevant documentation and make sure it is correct. Also, there must be no identifying marks on the documentation - this often happens when sent by courier. Finally, the paperwork needs to be returned on time and to the correct address.

Current information on local authority contracts can be found on the following websites:

Advertising Contract Opportunities

All contracts that require an advertisement will be advertised on the Council's Current Opportunities web page:

                                http://www.barking-dagenham.gov.uk/

Contracts under £100K are also advertised on the supply2gov web site

                                http://www.supply2.gov.uk/

Other useful websites are:

@UKPLC:             http://www.uk-plc.net/
@UK PLC enables all sizes of business to trade online quickly and easily with all types of customers.)

CompeteFor:     http://www.competefor.com/
CompeteFor is the chosen site of London 2012 for the publication of Games-related contract opportunities

Sue Chappell also explained that e-Procurement is essentially the automation of all processes and the elimination of paper transactions. Purchase Cards were the main method of using e-Procurement, enabling suppliers to receive prompt payment.

Sue Chappell is the Strategic Procurement Manager, working in the Corporate Procurement Section of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
