Councillor Shan Alexander and Stockport Metro and Trafford Synchronised Swimming Squad launch the Cool in the Pool exhibition at Grand Central Pools.
'Cool in the Pool', a new exhibition celebrating historic swimming headwear, opens at Hat Works on Saturday 23rd August as part of the Active Stockport campaign.
Hat Works is making a splash with the Stockport Metro and Trafford Synchronised Swimming Squad, who are launching the Cool in the Pool exhibition with a display of historic fashion swimming caps at Stockport's Grand Central Pools.
1960's wig-style caps with real hair, 1950's kitsch rubber swimming hats, modern racing caps and large Edwardian bathing hats are a few of the range of headwear on show. Other fascinating items include glamorous (and less than glamorous)swimming costumes, along with their accompanying caps from the last 100 years.
Interactive activities for all the family include rubber swimming caps to try on, crafts activities, and a memories board for visitors to share their swimming anecdotes.
Get inspired with the following active family fun events at the Hat Works:
'Bags of Fun' Wednesday 29 October, 10.30am - 12noon and 1pm - 2.30pm. Children can decorate their own swimming bag. £3 per person.
'Family Fun Day' Friday 31 October, 1.30pm - 3.30pm. An afternoon of swimming related activities, including designing and decorating your own swimming cap. Free admission.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Leisure, at Stockport Council, said: "This unique and intriguing display shows off swimming fashions throughout the ages and is certainly an exhibition with a sense of humour. Make sure you get down to Hat Works and join in the fun. If you fancy getting Cool in the Pool there are many ways to get active and get swimming in Stockport."
The exhibition is free and runs from 23rd August-16th November at Hat Works, the UK's only museum dedicated to the hatting industry and headwear.
